Folks tell me sometimes that they wish I was here and in the pulpit more often. I'm always flattered. Some of my trips are great all the way around. Such was the case when I went to Monterey, California in April to preach the installation sermon for my friend and colleague, Rev Greg Ward. Two of the important things he told me were that he thought of installation and ordination sermons as opportunities for major statements within our faith and that, besides an historical bent, he wanted the sermon to be as Universalist as I could make it. This, I believe, goes to show the rising interest in our heritage, at least among religious professionals. Getting the word out is a critical part of our calling as a congregation. Let us remember that as we head in to May and Homecoming. How about a resolution to ask more friends and neighbors to come to church with us, to put greater emphasis on public relations, and take our message to other UUs also?
See you in Church,
Barry
